Double Infinity

As a multidisciplinary joint art project of the Van Abbemuseum and Arthub Asia, Double Infinity raised questions on the formation of contemporary art collections, on the functioning of global artistic networks and on the goals and consequences of far-reaching cultural exchange. Two cities, Eindhoven and Shanghai, made up the local backgrounds against which an intercultural dialogue on these issues was stimulated and initiated.

Double Infinity comprised of an exhibition, a book and a series of performances and lectures centred around John Körmeling, the chief architect of the Dutch pavilion at the World Expo 2010. Work from the Van Abbemuseum collection was exposed alongside existing and new work by Chinese artists selected by Arthub Asia.

The items from the Van Abbemuseum collection included architectural models and an installation by John Körmeling, videos by Johanna Billing and David Maljkovic, and installations by Job Koelewijn and Stanley Brouwn. Double Infinity was curated by Charles Esche and Remco de Blaaij, both affiliated to the Van Abbemuseum, together with Davide Quadrio and Defne Ayas on behalf of Arthub Asia.
