Dutch designers at Canton Fair

Dutch designers joined the Products Design Center (PDC) in their activities during the Canton Fair in Guangzhou in April and October 2011. The PDC offers participating designers matchmaking and networking opportunities and a space for showcasing Dutch design in one of the central halls of the fair. After the success of the first trade mission from 23 to 27 April in collaboration with Syntens, a follow-up mission takes place in fall 2011 (different disciplines in phases between 15 October and 4 November) in collaboration with Brainport Development Eindhoven. The Association of Dutch Designers (BNO) and Syntens coordinate the Dutch participation at Canton Fair, as part of the DutchDFA programme.

The Canton Fair is China’s biggest export fair covering a broad range of sectors. The fair is held two times a year in Guangzhou and hosts approximately 22.000 exhibitors consisting of Chinese manufacturers and brands. The fair is strongly supported by the Chinese central (Beijing), provincial (Guangdong) and local (Guangzhou) governments. At the end of 2010 the Canton Fair Authority has established a “Products Design Center” (PDC), which will render design services (e.g. matchmaking between fair exhibitors and foreign designers).
