in Shenzhen

After starting in Shanghai and Beijing earlier this year, the travelling exhibition ‘Taking a Stance - 8 Critical Attitudes in Chinese and Dutch Architecture and Design’ reached its final destination in China. It  was on show at the OCT Art & Design Gallery in Shenzhen from June 26 to August 1.

Next to presenting the work of eight trend-setting designers from the Netherlands and China, the programme included Proactive Creativity, an internattional Design Forum on the role design can take on in the changing Chinese society.

Saturday June 26 marked the first of two days of a series of interesting and engaging lectures and discussions on design and architecture. Among the speakers were Mr. Ole Bouman, Director of the NAI, Mr. Timo de Rijk, lecturer at the Delft University of Technology faculty of Industrial Design, and Mark Hemel, partner at Information Based Architecture and architect of the new Guangzhou TV Tower.

Preceding the Design Forum, the Dutch Consul-General Mr. van Zeeland signed a Letter of Intent with the organizing committee of the Shenzhen & Hong Kong Bi-city Biennale of UrbanismArchitecture. The Letter of Intent outlines opportunities for Dutch collaboration and participation in the 2011 edition of the Biennale.

After showing in Shenzhen, the Taking a Stance tour will end in October 2010 at the Netherlands Architecture Institute (NAI) in Rotterdam.
