DMY designer dinner
The DMY International Design Festival (formerly DesignMai) focused its attention in 2009 on the Netherlands. The festival included contributions from het Designhuis, Studio Makkink and Bey, Material Sense, Flying Grass Carpet and the Sandberg Institute. DMY and DutchDFA jointly hosted an interactive Designer Dinner (designed by Marije Vogelzang’s Proef), which aimed to highlight the festival’s Dutch focus.
Designer Dinner by Marije Vogelzang
To highlight this Dutch Design Focus, DMY and DutchDFA jointly hosted the Designer Dinner, a gala dinner for over 200 designers, producers, media partners and political representatives where matchmaking is the opportunity and objective. Dutch designer and food specialist Marije Vogelzang (Proef) prepared an interactive dinner experience. Long tables contained a walking buffet, based on eight different colours. Each colour represented food that stimulates a specific state of mind, enhancing an easy flow of exchange between the guests, connecting design, industry and politics.
Symposium
The Festival’s programme for the symposium on sustainability has been expanded for the occasion. In addition to lectures by Jurgen Bey and Lidewij Edelkoort, DutchDFA invited Jan Jongert of 2012 architecten, Marije Vogelzang and Hans Venhuizen, while Christine de Baan gave a general introduction on DutchDFA.
- Superuse by 2012Architects, Jan Jongert 2012Architects explained how they consider ‘re-use’ to be an integral design strategy and manage to find "waste" materials using the harvest-map. The lecture showed how their findings determine their designs.
- Eat Love by Marije Vogelzang You put her designs inside your body. There they can activate the brain and call for strong emotions. After 10 years experience Marije Vogelzang developed an 8 point philosophy that shows the opportunities of eating design.
- GastGastgeber project by Hans Venhuizen The generous and experimental GastGastgeber project took place within Ruhr 2010 and Dutch design dashion architecture. Bureau Venhuizen investigated the role of culture in the design of public space, while re-using existing qualities of the urban landscape.
This collaboration between DMY Berlin and DutchDFA marked the start of a long-term partnership.
