GastGastgeber
In 2010 the Ruhr area is European Capital of Culture. Related to its theme of re-use, Dutch designers Jurgen Bey and Gilian Schrofer created temporary places to sleep, work and play in vacated industrial spaces in Dortmund and Oberhausen. Thus becoming both guests and hosts: GastGastgeber. This project links all Dutch cultural contributions to the RUHR.2010 manifestation, joined in NL-RUHR.

GastGastgeber combines an expected shortage of hotel beds in the region with Dutch examples of temporary accommodation designed by artists, designers and architects. The concept, developed by Hans Venhuizen, provides temporary and mobile accommodation facilities that will cross the Ruhr area during peak season of the manifestation, and which will connect with other elements of the Dutch cultural programme (concerts, theatre performances, exhibitions).
Top Dutch designers Jurgen Bey (Oberhausen Wasserturm) and Gilian Schrofer (Dutch Colours Dortmund) are curators of GastGastgeber. After the grand finale of Jurgen Bey's temporary home in Oberhausen in September and the workshops on Design and Re-Use in Essen, the GastGastgeber project reached its final week. Dutch Colors by Gilian Schrofer in Dortmund was open until October 24.
