Press release Focus on Dutch Design in Berlin
DMY International Design Festival in Berlin puts
In the international design world the Netherlands belong to the top. This is underlined by the Dutch Design focus at the prominent international design festival DMY (formerly known as DesignMai), which will take place in Berlin between 3 and 7 June. Dutch Design in the limelight The Festival will also feature presentations by Designhuis, Studio Makkink and Bey, Material Sense, Flying Grass Carpet and the Sandberg Institute, while Lidewij Edelkoort and Jurgen Bey will both speak during the DMY Symposium. To highlight the Dutch Design Focus, DMY and Dutch Design Fashion Architecture (DutchDFA) will jointly host the Designer Dinner, a gala dinner for over 200 designers, producers, media partners and political representatives, during which the aim is to provide ample networking opportunities. Dutch designer and food specialist Marije Vogelzang (Proef) will prepare an interactive dinner experience. Based on eight different colours, a buffet will be presented on a series of long tables. Each colour represents food that stimulates a specific state of mind, aimed at enhancing an easy flow of exchange between the guests, connecting design, industry and politics. In addition to Jurgen Bey and Lidewij Edelkoort’s lectures at the DMY Symposium, DutchDFA has invited Jan Jongert of 2012 architecten, Marije Vogelzang and Hans Venhuizen to talk about their work, while Christine de Baan will give a general introduction on DutchDFA. Jan Jongert will discuss architecture built from waste, while Marije Vogelzang talks about her eight-point philosophy that shows the opportunities of eating design. This collaboration between DMY and DutchDFA is the start of a long-term partnership. For DMY 2010, DutchDFA will for instance facilitate Hans Venhuizen’s ‘GastGastgeber’ project, as part of a range of Dutch mobile hotel facilities. Programme 2009 The DutchDFA 2009 programme continues at DesignYatra in Mumbai early September, moving to New York in the following week for the NYC400 festivities, as part of our parallel programme. In October, the DutchDFA programme will be in Shanghai to participate in the Creative Industry Week and 100% Design Shanghai, as well as in Beijing for an appearance at ICOGRADA.
