Commons4EU
Text by Waag:
During the Smart City Expo in Barcelona the project Commons for Europe (Commons4EU) was officially launched. At this occasion Frank Kresin (Research Director) and Ivonne Janssen-Dings (Project Manager) represented Waag Society, being one of the project partners of Commons4EU from The Netherlands.
The project aims at giving citizens to opportunity to participate in smart services from their local government. Following the successful initiative 'Code for America', Commons4EU will work on creating joint web-projects and opening up existing smart applications within cities. Part of this will be bottom-up broadband services like Super Wifi.
Within Commons4Europe 14 partners from 7 European cities participate: Amsterdam, Barcelona, Berlijn, Helsinki, Manchester, Rome and UK-NESTA related cities.
The project will run for three years and is partly financed from the Competitiveness and Innovation Framework Programme of the Europese Union. The Municipality of Amsterdam and Waag Society will be responsible for establishing a 'Code for Europe' and to develop new smart open applications within cities in a fellowship programme.
