Gold for Aziz
Press release:
From 13 June through 6 January 2011, the GOLD exhibition, with the Dutch fashion designer, performance artist and artist Aziz Bekkaoui as a guest curator, is on display. With this exhibition, AZIZ expresses his personal view and vision on gold, mankind’s most sought-after metal.
He takes the museum collection as a basis and adds unexpected and interesting old, modern and contemporary loans.
Gold themes include protection, decoration, showing, power and symbols. These themes are either symbolic or actual.
Crowns, sceptres, icons, masks and jewellery are some of the objects that have been fashioned from gold from time immemorial,
and for various reasons. Until today, gold remains a valuable commodity, in many aspects. Take, for example,
a golden Olympic medal, golden logo’s from fashion designers, a golden iPod or laptop and golden creams promising an everlasting young skin. And the spectacular AZIZ collection, in which he frequently uses gold, will be shown to the public. With his singular vision, capacity to create links, and style, Dutch Aziz Bekkaoui guarantees an intriguing exhibition, GOLD, in the Catharijneconvent Museum.
