Gastgastgeber wins Fassadenpreis
Press release:
It was the 20th time Brillux awarded the prestigious ‘Fassadenpreis’ in Münster, Germany. The renowned German Architecture price is all about the most innovative, creative and technically groundbreaking façade designs. For the first time in 20 years, it was not a German agency that got the award, but it was given to a Dutch agency: Concern.
Gastgastgeber
In 2010, the city of Essen and the whole Ruhr Metropolis were designated to be the ‘European Capital of Culture’. Therefore, the Dutch DFA (temporary programme for the internationalisation of Dutch Design, Fashion and Architecture ) created temporary residential facilities for all extra guests visiting the projects concerning this special year. The Gastgastgeber foundation, together with the Dutch Agency Venhuizen, offered a series of spaces to use for accommodation. Concern created an apartment block in Dortmund. The agency linked several innovative Dutch interior- and product designers who have made a big impact on the Dutch design culture. They where asked to furnish 7 empty labour houses with ‘colour’ as main emphasis, distinguishing several decades. The colourful facade was inspired by the work of Gerard Richter and is the winner of the Fassadenpreis 2011.
Concern
Concern is a design agency in the broadest sense, but with a focus on interior design. Gilian Schrofer and Cindy Bosma established concern September 2005. The design projects vary from interiors for museums, restaurants, schools, exhibitions, to creative workspaces. At the moment, big projects are the new interior of the Stedelijk Museum (Amsterdam’s Museum of Modern Art) and several offices for UPC (the leading Dutch cable operator). Concern is situated in the Duintjer CS building, the creative hotspot on the Vijzelstraat in the Amsterdam city centre.
