Visit to Turkey

Turkey was introduced as the fourth focus country to the DutchDFA programme in 2011. In order to explore options for collaboration with local Turkish partners for future projects, five members of the DutchDFA Programme Group visited Istanbul from 25 to 27 January 2012.

The trip consisted of meetings with current partners in Turkey and networking with potential key contacts for realizing new projects in 2012. The goal was to look for specific collaborations during 2012 that could create trade and future sustainable cultural collaboration.

Participants from the Netherlands: Tim Vermeulen, Premsela (The Netherlands Institute for Design and Fashion); Rita van Hattum, BNO (Association of Dutch Designers), Fred Schoorl and Mathias Lehner, BNA (Royal Institute of Dutch Architects); Chris Luth, NAI (Netherlands Architecture Institute), Christine de Baan and Yonca Özbilge (Dutch Design Fashion Architecture).

The delegation met with representatives of: IKSV / Istanbul Design Biennial, Dream Design Factory / Istanbul Design Week, ETMK (Industrial Designers Association) Bilgi University, Europist, SALT Istanbul, IMA (Istanbul Fashion Academy), MTD (Fashion designers Association), FashionIst Arkitera (Architecture Center), YEM (Building Information Center) and Santral Istanbul

Furthermore in close collaboration with the Netherlands Consulate General in Istanbul a creative industries networking cocktail was organized at Palais de Hollande.

The visit led to concrete possibilities for collaborations and will be further developed by DutchDFA and it’s partners in the next few weeks. Concrete projects within the DutchDFA Turkey programme will start from March 2012.
